Grime takes centre-stage.
With 2016 being the most exiting year for the British Grime scene so far, we at HIPE don’t think it will stop there.
After Skepta’s mercury award win and Chance The Rappers successes at the 2017 Grammy awards, it can only mean one thing for the ever-more exiting independent sectors of music… An outrageously prosperous year to come.
Up until only a few years back, the Grime scene lost its momentum due to some of its most recognisable artists signing to commercial labels with the overall artistic directions heading in a more generic and chart-styled direction. Ever since then, artists such as Stormzy, Wiley, Lethal Bizzle, Skepta, Dizzee Rascal, Jme, Kano and many more have completely re-energised the underground and predominantly independent Grime industry.
For the first time ever, the British but more importantly London based Grime scene is thriving internationally with artists being recognised by millions as well as by a massive number of highly-influential grammy winning king-pins such as Kanye West, Drake and more.
Many said 2016 was the year for Grime and there was a time where we did too, but with the recent successes and well-deserved recognition our rappers and MC’s are receiving, its only a matter of time before it’s on top…
